Almost all of the fisheries of the Sea of Cortes are severely depleted. Dorado one of the most prolific fish in the sea are literally gone ( Dorado Gone ). The vaquita, the rare harbor porpoise endemic to the northern sea is extinct despite 100’s of millions of dollars being spent tying to save it since 1991 when much of the northern sea became a protected area.
